A good Regency period ebony macassar (or coromandel-wood) DOUBLE TEA-CADDY of Sarcophagus shape with cut glass Sugar Bowl. Extensively inlaid and decorated with Mother-of-Pearl both inside and out.

The main lid of the sarcophagus shaped caddy opens to reveal two removable polished ebony macassar and MOP decorated hinged Tea Canisters. The lids of each canister opens to reveal the remnants of its original lead paper lining. The canisters are housed within their own recesses. The cut glass sugar bowl again sits neatly in its own circular green baized recess. The glass sugar bowl is heavy-cut with square portcullis style decoration and a circular raised base.

The Mother-of-Pearl decoration comprises, in the main, small delicate garlands of flowers and leaves, although the front and lid feature more geometric shapes, but also comprising delicate garlands of leaves and flowers. The key escutcheon is made of MOP and has a very slight chip to one side. There is no key.
