Eric Richard Sturgeon (b.1920-1999) painted mainly in watercolours developing a talent from an early age, often depicting architectural views across southern England. Born in Somerset. In 1940 Sturgeon enlisted with the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry and was posted to North Aftrica where he was captured and imprisoned in Italy, then later Germany. Here he eased the tension and effects of the harsh conditions by sketching portraits of his fellow prisoners. Following the war, he returned to Somerset and studied at Taunton Art College, following which he became a commercial artist, holding his first one-man exhibition in 1970.
Well mounted and behind glass in a gilt frame. In good condition. No signs of wear and colours still bright.
Dated: c.1950’s
