GILLOWS: A FINE MAHOGANY CHIFFONIER or SIDEBOARD

GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a particularly fine quality mahogany CHIFFONIER by this famous and highly regarded firm of cabinetmakers. Beautifully constructed using finest figured timber, it features an upper shelf supported on finely turned and reeded supports, with a smaller secondary shelf,  similarly supported with concave corners.

The lower section, below the frieze with its “egg-and-dart” moulding and carved corbels, are twin panelled doors, which open to reveal two adjustable shelves (making three in all) and it is supported on iconic Gillows “apple” feet below further carved corbels.  Complete with working lock and key.

A most useful and high quality piece, equally at home in the Drawing Room or in the Dining Room as a sideboard. 42ins wide; 17ins deep; 37ins high to the front. English, circa 1840-50
