A Rare PAIR Of Late 18th Century Inlaid Mahogany Cube TEA CADDIES
Price: £875 for the pairStock No. 664/PFK
An interesting and quite rare PAIR of late 18th century TEA CADDIES. Veneered to the top, front and sides in figured mahogany and inlaid with a variety of designs, diamond shape to the fronts with batswing paterea at each quarter, Sunburst to the sides and a Rose pattern surrounding the handle on the tops. Both Caddies feature cast brass shaped ‘ring’ handles and retain the original lead lining – in excellent condition.
** Tea was imported mainly from two countries: “Black” Tea from India and Ceylon, and “Green” Tea from China. It was important to keep these two teas separate ~ often in separate compartments within a large caddy but rarely, as in this case, in a pair of separate caddies.
