Early 19th century mahogany Longcase Clock by Ganthony of London

GANTHONY of LONDON: An elegant and fine quality mahogany longcase clock of comparatively small size. The eight day movement strikes hours on a bell with a finely engraved and silvered dial, signed by the maker, “Ganthony, 83 Cheapside, London”.

Richard Pinfold GANTHONY was recorded as a member of the Clockmakers Company between 1821 until his death in 1845. He followed his father and uncle (both also called Richard!) into the business. Their business started off in Clerkenwell, then moved to Lombard Street. His uncle died in 1825, from there they moved the business to 83-Cheapside in London.
