A very good quality early-Victorian Lady’s DRESSING and JEWELLERY CASE in particularly good condition. The box itself is of well-figured coromandel wood with recessed brass military-style handles to the sides and vacant oval cartouche to the lid.  It opens to reveal the beautifully fitted interior with TEN silver-topped bottles and jars arranged with two pads of tools and implements. These include two pairs of scissors; five delightful mother-of-pearl handled implements; silver toothpick and a charming silver pencil with amethyst endstone .

 

Below is the velvet-lined jewellery drawer, fitted for rings; necklaces; watch etc., whilst within the lid, behind the ruched velvet and gilt-tooled wallet, is the easel mirror in good condition. Within this wallet is the original maker’s label for: Mechi, Leadenhall Street, London. An excellent dressing and Jewellery box in good condition. 13ins wide; 9.5ins deep; 7ins high.
