Franz Xavier BERGMANN: a good and quite large Austrian “Vienna” cold-painted BRONZE FIGURE  of a Nubian dancer and musician.  This late 19th century and well-detailed figure depicts the musician wearing a turban and traditional dress, with curved dagger  (‘jambiya’) to his belt whilst playing the tambourine.  Fully signed with the Bergmann trademark and “Geschuzt” (Copyright). Just the right amount of period wear to the original paintwork. About 8ins (20 cms) high. c1890-1900.

** Franz Xavier BERGMANN (1861-1936) was the owner of a Viennese foundry that produced numerous patinated and cold-painted bronzes, particularly animals; Oriental and erotic figures, many of which were humorous.  They are widely sought-after these days with many collectors.
