A particularly fine quality, and indeed rare, fully fitted rosewood SEWING TABLE almost certainly by Gillows of Lancaster. The table itself features a well-figured rising lid and is supported on beautifully carved solid rosewood legs, leading to carved lion’s paw feet and enclosing the sliding work ‘basket’ which is pleated and lined in pastel green silk.

The lid opens to reveal the fitted interior filled with various sewing items of truly wonderful quality. These include: set of six solid mother-of-pearl cotton reels; matching tape measure; waxer; needle cleaner etc., plus full set of six large MOP winders; pair of cut-glass scent bottles with sprung silver lids and two compartments with finely carved and fluted MOP lids.

These are all arranged around the central tray with many further tools and implements, including set of three original matching scissors; penknife; button hook; stiletto; scent bottle corkscrew; silver pencil; silver toothpick and two silver thimbles amongst other items.  A really beautiful table with a comprehensive arrangement of superb quality fittings.
