An excellent Regency period burr elm TEA CADDY of good colour. The tightly-figured burr veneers are edged with ebony, and the sides are fitted with brass lion’s mask ring handles. The lid opens to reveal the original fitted interior with two tea canisters, also with burr elm lids (one traditional for “green” tea; the other for “black” tea) and these flank the very good original glass sugar bowl which is lightly and elegantly engraved. A lovely caddy in a rare wood and comes with a tea-leaf shaped caddy spoon. 12ins wide; 6ins deep; 7ins high (30.5x15x18cms) English circa 1830-45.
