A lovely quality and rare Regency period WRITING/SEWING BOX in excellent and complete condition. The box itself is of highly regarded kingwood with brass edges;  inlaid with brass decoration and vacant brass cartouche and escutcheon. It opens to reveal what is apparently a conventional interior with original blind-tooled leather writing surface; pair of inkwells and desirable candle-holders for use when writing/reading in the darker evenings.

However, when the upper section is opened there is revealed the full sized lift-out tray that is fully fitted and complete with all manner of sewing implements; cotton reels; scissors and other tools, all set within their dedicated compartments. Further below are three secret drawers and it comes with its fully working key. A very fine box indeed. 18ins wide; circa 1830.
