An unusual mid-Victorian mahogany CABINET OF “MATERIA MEDICA” ~ or medical specimens and pharmaceutical preparations , by Evans, Lescher & Webb of London. Behind the pair of doors are eight numbered drawers, seven of which are filled with some 235 different items of medical interest, whilst one is vacant with the original label within. Six of the fitted drawers have removable lids, under which the contents are fully listed and described (one lid is missing). Probably used by Pharmacists or perhaps as a teaching aide. The cabinet measures 15ins wide; 12ins high’ 10ins deep. (38 x 31 x 25cms). Circa 1860-70
