PORTRAIT (OIL) OF BARON SIR WILLIAM BOLLAND (1772-1840)

An interesting PORTRAIT, oil on canvas of the eminent Lawyer, judge and bibliophile Sir William Bolland, Baron who was born in 1772 and died in 1840. Apparently unsigned (though not taken out of its frame) this finely executed portrait bears all the hallmarks of being painted by a confident and highly accomplished artist. The sitter is depicted with greying hair and wearing a black longcoat and white stock.  It is within its original finely carved oval oak frame, and is accompanied by a William IVth period framed document referring to the Baron, dated the “third year of our reign” (so 1833).   39ins x 30ins including the frame.
