A good framed oil on canvas entitled “A North Wales Landscape” painted by George Parson-Norman. The picture depicts a fast flowing river, with a pool (probably a well-known fishing spot) just below some rapids. To either side on each bank are rocks and trees. With figures seated on the far bank and in a field in the middle distance.

Signed to the bottom left corner.

George Parson-Norman (1840-1914) was born in Surrey. After marrying in 1865 he moved to Hackney, London. Then later to Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1878. It was here that his career in art really kicked off. He was a landscape and coastal painter becoming a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club and exhibited from his own studio at the Old Bank House, London Road, Lowestoft. A few years later he exhibited at The Royal Academy; the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists; and the Royal Society of British Artists. After moving to Norwich and then Great Yarmouth many of his pictures featured on Holiday Postcards. In later years he included many pictures in three books he compiled “Poppyland” and “Broadland 1 & 2”. He died in 1914 aged 74.

Condition: Both the ornate gilt frame and the canvas are in very good condition. The lining to the rear of the canvas shows signs of a repair (see image), but there is no sign of damage to the painted surface. All colours are bright and luminescent, with no visible signs of cracking. The image is clean and bright, ready for hanging.
