MARINE WATERCOLOUR in the manner of WILLIAM and John Cantiloe JOYPrice: £475
Stock No. 5107/k
A fine quality and beautifully executed MARINE WATERCOLOUR of two Anglo-Spanish ships engaging each other a few miles off a coast. Apparently unsigned (though the painting has not been taken out of its frame for some years) this is very much in the style of the famous marine watercolourist brothers: William and John Cantiloe JOY. 27 x 21ins (69 x 53cms) including the frame. (Please excuse reflections from the glass, in the attached images)
** William (1803-1863) and John Cantiloe (1806-1866) JOY were born in Great Yarmouth and soon established themselves as fine marine artists. Known at the time as ‘The Brothers Joy’, they moved to London in 1830 under the patronage of the 3rd. Earl of Abergavenny and spent their final years in Chichester.
