A fine quality and imposing Library Terrestrial Globe, standing on three solid mahogany ‘pirouette’ legs terminating in original cast brass sabot castors. Complete with original engraved brass meridian ring which allows the earth’s natural ’tilt’ to be displayed,  the 18-inch diameter globe is in particularly good condition, with bright colours and almost no signs of wear, whilst the horizontal papers of zodiac signs etc., show signs of some use. The Globe: 18ins diameter; 45ins high overall.  The stand and globe circa 1825-30; the ‘papers’ circa 1890-1900.

** The “papers” on the globe are not original and appear to have been replaced towards the end of the 19th century. This was quite common as newly discovered lands and territories became widely known.
