INTERESTING “ELIZABETHAN” PORTRAIT; OIL ON PANEL

Price: £1350
Stock No. 5413/k

Anonymous: a most interesting and speculative PORTRAIT, OIL ON PANEL, which depicts an Elizabethan lady dressed in a typical 16th century gown, complete with close-fitting highly decorative bodice; farthingale (widely-hooped skirt); partlet (embroidered or lace fabric worn over the chest and shoulders) and velvet “puffed” sleeves that could be detached. She wears two rings on her left hand, and holds a fan.

It is within its superb heavily-carved and gilded wooden frame whilst the panel itself is heavily “cradled” ~ to provide stability and prevent warping. Dimensions: 71 x 63cms overall including this impressive frame; 40 x 30cms the panel itself.

** Difficult to see if there is a signature on this panel; also dating is not easy!  At the very latest it is 19th century (George Perfect Harding perhaps?) or maybe earlier.
