INTERESTING EARLY 18TH CENTURY PORTRAIT
Price: £1250Stock No. 5372/k
DOROTHEA LADY FITZROY (?): A good quality and well-painted early 18th century OIL PORTRAIT of an attractive and possibly noble young lady. Typically portrayed in the Queen Anne or early George I style, she wears a blue silk low-cut dress with cream lace edging, and with her auburn hair elegantly coiffured. Oil on panel and apparently unsigned, although an inscription on the reverse states: “John Wesley Jarvis”. However, he was born in 1780/81, and this is a good deal earlier. Possibly ” Charles Jervas”? (1675-1739) and very much in his style. 34 x 28ins including the later slender Victorian oval frame.
