The Artist: Gustave Adolphe De Breanski (1859-1899) was from a famous family of artists. His father and older brother (both called Alfred) were very well known and accomplished landscape artists. Gustave followed in their footsteps with landscapes, subsequently moving on to marine landscapes and coastal scenes, in particular scenes of harbours, with boats entering/leaving in calm and choppy waters.  He was a prolific artist and you will encounter many of his paintings at auction and art galleries today. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1878-1887 and was a keen supporter of the Suffolk Street galleries (Society of British Artists). His style is broader and somewhat more impressionistic than his siblings. His proficiency with colour is excellent and his composition shows an adeptness with both balance and perspective.
