GOOD WINE OR SIDE TABLE BY GILLOWS

GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a typically good quality early/mid 19th century WINE TABLE in Gonzales Alvez timber, much prized by Gillows.  The well-figured top with its rounded corners, is embellished with double-egg-and-dart moulding around the edge and is supported on a solid well-turned central column leading to reeded ‘hipped’ tripod legs and compressed ball feet. Dimensions: 73cms high, the top 56 x 46cms (29 x 22 x 18ins)

**Gonzales Alvez is a hardwood (Portuguese: Gonçalo Alves) found in northern South America, particularly in Brazil. It is sometimes referred to as ‘tigerwood’, a name that refers to the wood’s dramatic colour scheme that some compare to rosewood.
