AN EXCELLENT 18th CENTURY VERGE WALL CLOCK

Price: £1950
Stock No. 5391/k

WILLIAM JOHNSON, LONDON: a fine quality and throughly original late 18th century WALL CLOCK in perfect working order. The case, typical of the period, is of “salt box” style, with side door; lower access door and with an attractive narrow moulded mahogany dial surround.  The eight-day movement retains its original verge escapement with fixed box pendulum and brass keep, whilst the excellent silvered 12-inch dial features Roman numerals and is well engraved with the signature and accompanying flourishes.  Deeply moulded cast brass bezel, as one would expect of a wall clock of this period, complete with bezel lock, and good pierced blued steel hands.  A handsome and now hard-to-find verge wall clock. Thoroughly recommended.  circa 1780

** Probably William Johnson of Cheshunt (Bucks) previous of London; declared bankrupt in 1781. (See Baillie page 173)
