A VERY FINE FITTED SEWING BOX

A particularly fine quality, and original early/mid-19th century fitted SEWING BOX in excellent condition.  The coromandel-wood box is profusely inlaid with mother-of-pearl to the front and lid, with a MOP escutcheon, and opens to reveal the beautiful interior. This is lined in finest patterned vermillion silk ~ all original ~ with a ruched silk panel to the centre of the inside of the lid. The fine contents include: set of 8 mother-of-pearl “pansy” design cotton reels; matching waxer and needle cleaner and silver thimble, all arranged around a central pad of MOP handled tools and steel scissors. Below this lift-out tray is the similarly lined base which contains various additional sewing items.  A truly lovely box.  circa 1845-65.
