A SPLENDID AUSTRIAN COLD-PAINTED BRONZE SNIPE

A good quality and quite large Austrian “Vienna” cold-painted BRONZE SNIPE (Gallinago gallinago) in excellent original  condition with only a couple of very minor paint chips. 14cms (5.5ins) high.

** Snipe (and woodcock) belong to the same order as plovers and sandpipers with a plumage that is deep rust and brown, their backs and sides mottled with blacks and browns. Their long slender bills are designed to find earthworms; the lower bill is filled with nerve endings that help the birds “feel” the worms moving through the soil.
