A fine quality late 19th century gilt-tooled black-grained Morocco leather JEWELLERY BOX in excellent original condition. The lid, with its gilded military-style carrying handle, opens to reveal the interior lined with royal blue silk velvet. There are two lift-out trays, comprehensively fitted for necklaces; rings; earrings and fob watch, with a further compartment to the base, presumably for costume jewellery. Signed to the interior: Mechi & Co, 112 Regent Street, and complete with the original gilt self-closing Bramah lock and working key. 13 x 9.5 x 6.5 ins. circa 1880-1900.
