A GOOD COLONIAL POCKET BAROMETER
Price: £120Stock No. 5494/k
An impressive late 19th century POCKET BAROMETER in full working order signed W. Littlejohn & Son of Wellington, New Zealand.* In addition to measuring barometric pressure (and therefore most useful as a forecaster of weather) these precision instruments also serve as accurate altimeters (because pressure drops by about one inch for each 1000ft) whilst this particularly good example also features a mercury thermometer curved around the inner dial recess. 8cms diameter; circa 1885-1910.
* W.Littlejohn was a prominent firm of watchmakers; jewellers and opticians established in 1879 by Wilson Littlejohn, in Wellington.
