A FINE EARLY/MID 19th century FITTED SURGEON’S BOX

Price: £2250
Stock No. 5230/k

A very fine quality, large and complete fitted SURGEON’S BOX in particularly good original condition. The solid mahogany case is heavily bound in brass, with brass corners and front locking bolts. It opens to reveal an upper tray of beautiful quality implements which include trepanning equipment, catheters etc., with a set of three graduated large scalpels to the front, all with carved ebony handles and a heavy-duty brass and webbed tourniquet to one side.

The tray lifts out to reveal below further smaller scalpels; tweezers; catheters (many solid silver) and numerous other items, whilst the lid contains two saws, the larger one with an ebony handle.

Whilst not dated, this superb quality English Surgeon’s Box is an earlier example, probably dating from the 1835-1850 period.
