A FINE AND RARE CABINET OF FISHING FLIES
Price: £2850Stock No. 5402/k
A rare, complete and particularly fine quality CABINET OF FISHING FLIES made and retailed by the renowned London firm of Eaton & Deller.** The polished “honey” oak cabinet opens to reveal seven graduated drawers, each with recessed military-style brass handles, within which are arranged some 400 hand-tied fishing flies from small examples used during calm conditions to very large ones for when the river is in spate. Two of these drawers have double-layers of flies, all of which are extraordinarily fine, hand-tied using different feathers. In one drawer is the book: “Fly Dresser’s Guide” by John Veniard, whilst the lock is engraved with the name and address of the makers/retailers. The cabinet measures: 12.5ins wide; 9.5ins high and 9.5ins front-to-back.
** Joseph Eaton started making fishing tackle early in the 19th century and by 1860 he teamed up with Lee Deller and opened his shop Eaton & Deller at No.6 Crooked Lane, London. For many decades this shop was a haven for fishing enthusiasts, finally ceasing trade in 1935.
