19th CENTURY JAPANESE TSUBA

A mid-late 19th century Japanese iron TSUBA (a hand guard placed between the hilt and blade of a Japanese sword, its purpose to protect the hand and also balance the sword) with raised and engraved part-gilded and silvered decoration which includes a wolf. Engraved signature to one side.  Meiji period (1868-1912).
