Thomas Bush Hardy (British, 1842-1897). A pretty 19th century gilt framed watercolour painting, heightened with white. The scene depicts a coastal scene with fishing boats and traders, one on horseback.

Signed lower left corner, and dated 1882

About the Artist:  Thomas Bush Hardy (1842-1897) was a British marine painter specialising in watercolours. He lived most of his life in Maida Vale, London, and travelled extensively throughout Italy and the Netherlands. In 1884 he was elected a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists. He exhibited there as well as the Royal Academy. many of his paintings feature coastal scenes in England, the Netherlands, French Channel Ports and the Venetian lagoon. One of his 9 children (Dudley Hardy) was also a painter, illustrator and poster designer. His daughter Dorothy was awarded an MBE for her services to Nursing during the First World War.
