1629/18: JOHN BELL, BATH: a good quality mid-19th century mahogany REGULATOR longcase CLOCK in full working order. The case is typical with Regency influences to the hood pediment; glazed trunk door and double plinth base. The 8-day movement has thick plates; maintaining power; deadbeat escapement; a wood-rod pendulum with precision adjustment and an engraved silvered regulator dial with separate dials for seconds and hours. 84ins high; 21ins wide; 9ins deep (213 x 53 x 23cms)*John Bell, son of a boot & shoe maker, was born in 1825 and died in 1882. Astonishingly he set up shop for 10 years at No. 3 Quiet Street Bath! c.1860

1424/17: Ernest OEHME, VIENNA: a most elegant and fine quality Grand Sonnerie VIENNA REGULATOR in perfect working order. The slender case is veneered in pale figured rosewood with boxwood edging and features a carved pediment; glazed sides and glazed front door. The 8-day triple-weight movement strikes hours and quarters on two gongs every quarter, with its original steel-rod pendulum and enamel dial signed by the maker. Fine and original blued steel hands. 43 x 12 x 6ins (109 x 30.5 x 15cms) * We can find no Ernest Oehme, clockmaker, though a very famous German romantic painter (1797-1855) goes by the same name. c.1830
