1907/18: A spectacular quality late Victorian Sheraton Revival ROLL-TOP DESK in fine original condition. Primarily veneered in "plum pudding" mahogany this impressive desk is profusely marquetry inlaid with emblems; flowers and scrolls within figured satinwood borders. The top, with its original brass gallery, rolls back to reveal the well fitted interior with three small drawers and 6 pigeonholes, whilst the blind-tooled leather writing surface slides forward. To the frieze are two oak-lined drawers, and it is raised on marquetry inlaid tapering legs with original castors. Glorious colour and patina ~ a most impressive piece of furniture. c.1890

1844/18: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a truly remarkable and wonderful quality kidney-shaped DRESSING or WRITING TABLE in fine original condition. This superb (and rare) table epitomises everything that this renown firm of cabinetmakers is famous for, with its kingwood parquetry top which is edged with multiple bands of tulipwood; boxwood and amboyna and with ormolu mounted edges. The frieze is fitted with a single concave drawer (stamped "GILLOW" to the leading edge) whilst below is the matching under-tier, also beautifully veneered and with an ormolu gallery around. It is supported on ormolu-mounted reeded legs with pretty 'toupee' feet and original castors. Exceptional. 38ins wide; 20ins deep; 29ins high. (96.5 x 51 x 73.5cms) c.1870

1623/18: EDWARDS & ROBERTS: a splendid quality late Victorian mahogany WRITING DESK in wonderful condition. The boxwood inlaid and crossbanded top is fitted with a gilt-tooled morocco leather writing surface, whilst below, the two pedestals each have three graduated drawers arranged either side of the kneehole, with a further concave drawer to the centre. All these drawers are lined in mahogany and are beautifully inlaid with marquetry scrollwork to the fronts. One is fitted for writing (ink bottles; pens etc) and the centre drawer is stamped with the makers name. A practical and very attractive desk. 48ins wide; 25ins deep; 28.5ins high. (122 x 63.5 x 72cms) c.1890
