2084/19: A good quality late Regency or William IVth set of six mahogany DINING CHAIRS by Gillows of Lancaster. Each chair features a solid bar back carved with harebells, whilst the upholstered “drop-in” seats are supported on pretty bobbin-turned legs terminating in peg feet. (The drop-in seats are secured by screws to the frame, making re-upholstery both easy and inexpensive). *Although not stamped (most furniture by Gillows is not) there are a number of Gillows features present in these chairs, notably the carved corner decoration above each front leg, which can be found illustrated in "Gillows of Lancaster and London) by Susan Stuart, Volume 1, pages 221-223. c.1830
