1962/19: A pretty mid-Victorian well-figured walnut PEDESTAL DESK in good condition. The top, which is fitted with a gilt-tooled beige coloured leather writing surface, features three mahogany-lined drawers to the frieze, all of which retain their original solid walnut bun handles. Below are two cupboards, one with three mahogany drawers inside; the other fitted as a cupboard with an adjustable shelf. It is supported on a plinth base, and overall it is veneered in finely figured walnut of good "warm" colour, including the well-panelled back. 48ins wide; 27ins deep; 29.5ins high. 1933/19: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: An excellent quality mid-19th century rosewood DAVENPORT (or Writing Desk) in lovely original condition. The top with its gilt brass baluster gallery and beaded edge decoration, retains its original blind-tooled leather writing surface which opens to reveal the fitted interior with two small drawers and gilt brass lid support. To the right side is the "secret" hinged pen-and-ink drawer whilst both sides have large slides. Below are four long graduated drawers ('dummy' drawers opposite) and it is supported on typical Gillows 'Apple' feet with original brass castors. The whole top slides forward when in use. A fabulous davenport! c.1835

1623/18: EDWARDS & ROBERTS: a splendid quality late Victorian mahogany WRITING DESK in wonderful condition. The boxwood inlaid and crossbanded top is fitted with a gilt-tooled morocco leather writing surface, whilst below, the two pedestals each have three graduated drawers arranged either side of the kneehole, with a further concave drawer to the centre. All these drawers are lined in mahogany and are beautifully inlaid with marquetry scrollwork to the fronts. One is fitted for writing (ink bottles; pens etc) and the centre drawer is stamped with the makers name. A practical and very attractive desk. 48ins wide; 25ins deep; 28.5ins high. (122 x 63.5 x 72cms) c.1890
