1642/18: M. Read; Aylsham: an impressive early 19th century mahogany 'NORFOLK' WALL CLOCK in perfect working order. Typical of large wall clocks to be found in East Anglia, the case is of well-figured mahogany; crossbanded to the long trunk door and with a reeded solid rosewood surround to the dial. The 8-day weight-driven movement has a long pendulum, and its original painted convex dial. 50ins high' 8ins deep; the dial 15ins diameter. (126 x 20.5 x 38cms). *Mark Read worked as a clockmaker in Aylsham (Norfolk) from 1800-1822, together with brother Matthew, who was apprecticed in 1770 and died in 1826. c.1800
