1555/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A fine quality and totally original solid mahogany extending DINING TABLE to seat TWELVE in good original condition. The well-figured mahogany top, complete with its three original leaves, is supported on eight turned and reeded legs which terminate in original and substantial brass castors. The four central legs are well recessed, and therefore do not interfere with diners legs. Complete with its original set of eight cast brass clips and compartment under to hold them when not in use. 54ins wide; 10ft 4ins long extended; 54ins without the leaves. (137 x 315 x 137cms). *The two ends of this good table bolt together (original bolts) which allow the table to be easily moved when access is a bit tight! c.1835

1539/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a good quality early/mid 19th century FOUR-TIER WHATNOT (or "etagere") by this famous firm of cabinetmakers. Constructed of solid and veneered Gonzales Alvez timber and finely made, it features the traditional Gillows baluster gallery with "S" scroll terminals, whilst the four figured veneered shelves are supported on solid uprights leading to turned "toupee" feet and fine quality brass castors. An unusual model from Gillows and very fine quality. 46ins high; 18.5ins wide; 15ins deep (117 x 47 x 38cms) c.1835

1520/17: A pretty Regency period rosewood 'CROCUS" or FLOWER TABLE with features that lead to a Gillows origin. The circular top is edged with an unusual rosewood 'petal' border, whilst the central panel is removed via the brass push-pin beneath revealing a vacant interior. It is raised on a solid column, with reeded knop, leading to a triform base and rosewood bun feet. 30ins high; 16ins wide. (76 x 40.5cms) *These tables were used to plant small bulbs (such as crocuses) which remained dormant until a couple of week prior to an important party or ball, when they would flower in time for the important occasion. c.1830

1498/17: A superb quality Regency period metamorphic GAMES & WORK TABLE in fine original condition. Veneered in Gonzalez Alvez timber the top slides out to reveal the inlaid Backgammon board under and turns over for the inlaid chess & draughts board. To either side are two small drawers; with a lower drawer and "U" shaped silk-pleated "work" drawer further below. Complete with its fine (original?) ivory barleycorn chess set and carved ivory draughts & backgammon pieces. A truly stunning table! *Although not stamped this is likely to be by Gillows, given the timber used; the beaded decoration and the very fine quality throughout. c.1825

1490/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a fine early 19th century rosewood CARD TABLE of particularly good and impressive quality. The beautifully-figured top, with its bead-and-dart moulding opens to reveal the maroon baize-lined interior, whilst the frieze is decorated with applied 'panels' and further bead-and-dart moulding to the lower edge. It is supported on a tapering octagonal column with two gadroon 'collars' leading to reeded legs and fine cast brass ornate castors. A stunning table! 35ins wide; 17ins deep; 29ins high. *A table with an identical base is illustrated in "Gillows of Lancaster & London" Vol 2 page 369 c.1825

1419/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a fine quality early 19th century Regency period rosewood LIBRARY WRITING TABLE in lovely condition. The figured top, with its gadrooned edging, is fitted with a well-tooled leather writing surface, whilst the frieze below contains two mahogany-lined drawers fitted with brass handles (not original). It is supported on particularly fine turned and carved standard ends, leading to carved lion's paw feet, original castors beneath, with stylish carved corbels above and below. 1398/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A good pair of early 19th century Regency period solid mahogany HALL CHAIRS in excellent condition. The solid backs are carved with well-defined acanthus leaves and gadrooned scrolled crests, whilst the seats are moulded with oval panels. They are supported on ring-turned slightly splayed front legs and faceted rear legs united by typical Gillows turned stretchers. Overall height: 36ins; 17ins wide; 19ins deep; the seats 18.5ins high. (91.5 x 43 x 48 x 47cms) c.1810

1397/17: A wonderfully impressive and superb quality early 19th century mahogany SIDEBOARD or SERVING TABLE. Almost certainly by either Gillows of Lancaster or Trotter (of Edinburgh) this thoroughly original piece features a shaped backboard inlaid with ebony stringing; a one-piece top of excellent figuring and patina whilst it is supported on beautifully carved 'Classical' legs which terminate in good carved scroll feet. The frieze features a long bow-fronted central drawer, flanked by twin small drawers, both of which are lined in burgundy baize. *A gorgeous Serving table ~ perhaps also ideal for use in a large impressive hall? 77ins long; 34ins high; 26.5ins deep. (195 x 86 x 67cms) c.1825

1376/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a very large and highly impressive early/mid 19th century mahogany CIRCULAR DINING TABLE in fine original condition. Typical of the quality of furniture from this highly regarded firm of cabinetmakers, it features a beautifully figured top, which tilts upwards and is supported on a massive faceted central pillar, leading to a triform base and "apple" shaped feet concealing the original large 'barrel' brass castors. This table will seat TEN comfortably if required! 60ins diameter; 29ins high. (152.5 x 73.5cms). *Original period circular dining tables of this size are rare, especially so by Gillows. c.1830

Below the beautifully figured top with its rounded corners, are two shallow drawers to the frieze, with egg-and-dart moulding around the lower edge. It is supported on typical Gillows carved and fluted solid rosewood columns terminating in "apple" shaped feet with original concealed castors. A handsome Library/Writing Table. 49.5ins long; 29.5ins deep. (125.5 x 75cms). *A similar Library Table with identical supports and about the same size is illustrated in "Gillows of Lancaster & London" by Susan E. Stuart; Volume 1; page 292. c.1825

1344/17: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A good set of SIX solid beech simulated rosewood DINING CHAIRS in fine original condition. Each chair is carved with stylised anthiemon to the upper rail and with beading to the middle rail, whilst the drop-in seats are supported on well-turned and reeded legs, with carved anthiemon to each corner. Good solid and eminently usable chairs ~ the price includes re-covering in buyers material. *These chairs are illustrated in "Gillows of Lancaster & London" by Susan Stuart, Volume 1, page 221 plate 205. c.1825

1335/16: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a fine quality figured mahogany DRESSING MIRROR in lovely condition. The original mirror plate is framed within a cushion moulding and is finely panelled in solid mahogany to the back. It is supported on shaped and reeded uprights which stand upon the beautifully-figured shaped "flame" mahogany base, with its beaded decoration and stands upon four melon-carved feet. The angle of the mirror is fully adjustable and locks into place if required. 24ins (61cms) wide. c.1835

1077/15: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A particularly fine and most impressive early 19th century mahogany WINE COOLER of cistern type. The fold-over "cushion" edge is finely and deeply carved with egg-and-dart mouldings, whilst the gently tapering sides are beautifully veneered in finest "flame" mahogany to the countersunk panels. Good beaded mouldings can be found around the base, with its rounded corners, and it is supported on solid mahogany turned feet and original castors within. The lead lining has been carefully replaced so that it is now fully waterproof. A very good and actually quite rare piece by this fabulous cabinetmaker. c.1825

1003/15: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a superb quality solid mahogany PAIR OF CHAIRS in excellent condition but in needed of re-upholstery. These handsome occasional chairs, ideal perhaps for the bedroom, feature carved and fluted backs, with typical Gillows 'anthiemon' carved "ears" and buttoned upholstery, whilst the overstuffed seats are supported on turned and reeded front legs with original castors. Good chairs, and surprisingly heavy! Priced for the pair. c.1840 c.0
