2114/19: “BUBBLES” by William Helmsley: a charming Victorian OIL PAINTING on wooden panel, depicting two young children, the girl in a red smock holding a large mug and and the boy in long shorts and heavy boots, blowing some bubbles from a clay pipe. Signed to a label on the reverse and inscribed to the original gilded frame. 17x15ins including the original frame. *William Helmsley (1817-1906) a genre artist of note, became known for his rustic domestic scenes leading to being described as the "pre-eminent painter of Cottage Life". He exhibited widely in London, including the Royal Academy and was elected to the Society of British Artists in 1859
