2074/19: A fine quality mid-late 19th century MARINE CHRONOMETER in full working order. The mahogany case with its two hinged lids opens to reveal the chronometer mounted within its original brass gymbals. The original 56-hour fusee movement with chronometer escapement features gold hands and a silvered engraved dial signed: "John Poole, maker to the Admiralty, 57 Fenchurch Street, London." Subsidiary seconds dial; "Up-and-Down dial and original 'tipsy' key. *John Poole was a chronometer maker of considerable note; the dial shows a date of 1867 ~ the business moved in 1870, so this can be dated within those three years.
