Bronze by Gaudez
1974/19: GAUDEZ: an impressive and fine quality BRONZE SCULPTURE entitled "Le Devoir" (translation: "The Duty"). The young man stands, scantily clad with his left hand resting on a plough and a sword in his right hand. Beautifully modelled and cast with an applied plaque to the front engraved: "Le Devoir par A. Gaudez, Hors Concours" and a cast signature to the integral bronze base. 23ins (58.5cms) high. *Adrien Etienne GAUDEZ was born in Lyon, France in 1845. He worked almost exclusively in bronze, producing a wide range of military and patriotic works, winning various awards. He died in 1902.
