Bronze cat by Barye
1938/19: Antoine-Louis BARYE: a charming BRONZE SCULPTURE which this fine artist entitled: "Chat Assis" (Seated Cat). Typical of this sculptor, he has caught the cat perfectly as it calmly and patiently waits ~ perhaps for a mouse to appear from a hole in the skirting boards? Signed within the bronze, and raised on its original variegated marble plinth. 9ins (23cms) high overall. *Antoine-Louis BARYE (1795-1875) was a French sculptor renown for his exemplary work as a sculptor of animals. Equally famous for his work on a small scale, and also large statues he is accredited with being the founder of the renown "Animalier" movement.
