Writing Box by Edwards
1721/18: An excellent quality early/mid 19th century WRITING & DOCUMENTS BOX by Edwards, the famous box-maker to King George IV; William IV and Queen Victoria. The beautifully figured rosewood that is used here, is cross-banded with kingwood and inlaid with brass with recessed brass handles to the sides. It opens to reveal the fitted interior with the original gilt-tooled leather writing surface; pair of inkwells; two secret drawers; and separate brass-inlaid pen tray. To the inside of the lower slope, the original makers label can be found and there is a key to the working inner lock. 15ins wide; 9.5ins deep; 6ins high. (38x24x15cms)
