Coach scene oil painting
1718/18: Manner of HENRY ALKEN: An interesting (and rather dirty!) early/mid 19th century OIL PAINTING on board, which depicts a stagecoach, travelling at speed with a number of passengers precariously perched on top. It is drawn by four galloping horses, with a lake and mountains in the background. Apparently unsigned, but with an (original?) applied tablet to the frame: H. Alken. *HENRY ALKEN (1785-1851): The best known of the Alken family of sporting artists, and a keen huntsman himself, he was a prolific painter of hunting, coaching and shooting scenes.
