English river landscaape oil
1705/18: In the manner of James Peel (1811-1906): an appealing and well-composed OIL PAINTING on canvas depicting a river landscape with an angler, with mountains in the background. Beautifully painted and signed with a monogram (lower left corner) together with the date: 1861. 29 x 23ins (73.5 x 58.5cms) including the frame. *James Peel RBA was a landscape painter who exhibited at the British Institution and the Royal Academy (1843-1888) and elsewhere. He was a prolific painter of English views particularly in the North East counties; the Lake District and North Wales. This scene is likely to be either in the Lake District or perhaps the Peak District.
