Wonderful marquetry longcase clock
1681/18: CHRISTOPHER GOULD: a very fine and original late 17th/early 18th century MARQUETRY LONGCASE CLOCK in full working order. The case is superbly inlaid with marquetry to the hood; the base and with gorgeous oval panels to the long trunk door. The 8-day 5-pillar movement, typical of the period, strikes hours via the internal countwheel, whilst the dial features subsidiary seconds; date aperture; 'ringed' decoration to the winding holes; cherub spandrels and ornate blued steel hands. Engraved signature to the chapter-ring. 84ins tall. *Christopher Gould (fl 1682-1718), a highly regarded maker, with a number of longcase clocks in the Wetherfield Collection.
