English Longcase regulator
1629/18: JOHN BELL, BATH: a good quality mid-19th century mahogany REGULATOR longcase CLOCK in full working order. The case is typical with Regency influences to the hood pediment; glazed trunk door and double plinth base. The 8-day movement has thick plates; maintaining power; deadbeat escapement; a wood-rod pendulum with precision adjustment and an engraved silvered regulator dial with separate dials for seconds and hours. 84ins high; 21ins wide; 9ins deep (213 x 53 x 23cms)*John Bell, son of a boot & shoe maker, was born in 1825 and died in 1882. Astonishingly he set up shop for 10 years at No. 3 Quiet Street Bath!
