Walnut Stool/Coffee Table/Canterbury
1577/17: A most unusual and particularly fine quality mid-Victorian CENTRE STOOL and MAGAZINE RACK. At first glance this is a large stool with an upholstered top, which is hinged and when opened reveals an interior that is divided for magazines and newspapers etc., (much the same as a canterbury). The stool itself is of beautifully figured burr walnut, finely inlaid to the front, back and both sides, whilst to each corner are turned and carved columns leading to turned legs and original castors. Apart from being a "storage-stool", this would make a most useful Coffee Table, if re-upholstered and deep-button in glazed chintz for example. 30ins wide; 19ins deep; 18.5ins high (76 x 48 x 47cms)
