Oil Painting on wood panel
1575/17: A beautiful OIL PAINTING on panel which depicts a family gathering being entertained by an itinerant traveller playing a small flute whilst his two performing dogs dance to the delight of the children. The quality of this work is utterly charming and the depiction of the figures is particularly emotive. The table is set with partially consumed food; chickens peck at the crumbs ~ there is much going on! Signed and dated 1859. 15 x 13.5ins unframed. *Jean Alphonse Roehn (1799-1864) was born, worked and died in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the yearly Salon and his works were almost exclusively settings from everyday life, for which he had an obvious talent.
