NEST OF TABLES BY GILLOWS
1258/16: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a fine quality rosewood NEST OF FOUR TABLES almost certainly by this famous firm of cabinetmakers. Beautifully veneered in finely-figured timber with solid rosewood supports leading to carved corbels and scrolled feet, the larger table features twin "D" shaped velvet-lined compartments with hinged lids. The second table is inlaid with a chess board in rosewood and satinwood, so these compartments were likely to be for the storage of chess pieces etc. Fine condition and eminently useful stables. 28ins high (max); 27ins wide (max) 12.5ins deep. (71 x 68 x 32cms)
